We've been on the road most of the month of July and had another great trip in the RV. We spent a couple weeks in Lake Tahoe and another week or so going and coming from San Diego.
This is the first time we took Bentley on an extended trip and he was a peach. However we were with him 24/7 for 22 days, and that's JUST WHAT MAKES HIM HAPPY! Having a dog with us posed limitations, but fortunately Tahoe is a dog-friendly place. Lots of restaurants with outside patios, so dogs were always welcome there.
Had a fun visit with Bob's sister Betty Ann and her husband Bob on the way home. She has moved full time to Apple Valley and is getting settled in. It's a big change for the "beach girl" but I bet she'll map in just fine.

- Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn . . . Outstanding mystery with a ton of twists and turns. A little racy in the language department, but terrific novel.

- State of Wonder by Ann Patchett . . .well written and interesting fictional story taking the reader along to the Amazon jungle; teaches you a lot about drug research and the medical profession.

- Clara & Mr. Tiffany by Susan Vreeland . . . this is the second of her books I've read. Her writing style and her love of art fosters my affection for this author. This is a fictional account based on the true development of a "Women's Department" at the Tiffany Glass Studios in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

- The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami . . . a weirdly haunting and mesmerizing novel. I can hardly explain it, yet I couldn't stop reading.

- Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese . . . a fictional story about twin brothers born of a secret union. The story tells of love, betrayal, medical practice around the world and the pull of genes no matter what happens in life. It's a page turner I couldn't put down.

- The Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland . . . a fictional story tracing the ownership of a hauntingly beautiful "lost Vermeer" painting. A lovely quick read. By the way, the author is a local college professor!

- The Professor and the Madman by Simon Winchester . . . a tale of the making of the Oxford English Dictionary. You learn of the lives of the Professor who headed the 70-year project, and the (American) Madman who was a major contributor.
